Children in queue School Hall Children throwing leaves Toys on a bench

Welcome to Year 6, home of the oldest and wisest children at The Bellbird!

This year the children will be given lots extra responsibilities around the school as we set the example for the younger children in how to approach learning, play and relationships. We will be working hard to prepare for our SATs in May, but making sure we enjoy the experience of being at the top of the school.

This Autumn Term, 2017, we have already enjoyed Roald Dahl Day – dressing up as our favourite characters from his range of amazing stories. We are using Matilda to inspire some of our early writing and will be moving onto the topics of World War I and World War II to inspire our writing, history, geography and art work. Our main text this first half term will be Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo. After half term we will focus on Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden.

At the end of our second week together we will be heading off for fun and adventures at PGL in Lincolnshire. We hope the children will build positive and lasting relationships which will help them achieve their best in the year ahead. Other things to look forward to in this first half term include Bikeability at the end of September.

After Christmas we will switch to a new topic called, ‘River Deep, Mountain High’. News on that to follow later…

Best wishes, from the Year 6 team.
